My 1 minute story about home
I had 1 month to pack my life into boxes and find somewhere new to call home because my landlady wanted her flat back 😱
I kind of suspected something like this might happen. It’s probably why I hadn’t repainted the bedroom, or planted anything in the garden. It wasn’t really mine, no matter how long I had been renting it.
It was a lovely place and I had been there 6 years. I was building a life there. But suddenly, my landlady had shown me how little control I had.
I needed somewhere to call my own. Somewhere I could hang all my pictures. Somewhere to welcome Snowy. A place nobody could ask me to leave.
So, I jumped on Rightmove and Zoopla, scouring the market for homeownership sweet homeownership. I didn’t really know what I could afford but I made some guesses based on my salary and what I thought I could beg and borrow for a deposit.
Then, a phone call with a financially minded friend put a halt to my search. He explained to me something about mortgages that I had not understood. Something that meant I was never going to be able to buy the type of home I was used to renting.
Days later, while Googling all variations of ‘alternative ways to buy a home’, I stumbled on a piece in The Times about a company trying to solve the problem. That very day, I applied for a job as their writer, and now here I am, writing to you.
Since joining, I’ve spoken to thousands of aspiring homeowners who are in similar situations to me. And it’s clear that lots of people don’t know about the problem with mortgages.
So, let me explain the problem, because understanding it will help you figure out if Wayhome is a potential solution for you.
